SUMMARY:Sun\, Soil & Sovereignty: An Agrivoltaics Tour with SHEBA Farm
DESCRIPTION:PNW Climate Week presents: Sun\, Soil & Sovereignty: An Agrivoltaics Farm Tour with SHEBA Farm offers an interactive look at innovative agriculture that supports people and the environment. Join us for PNW Climate Week at Oregon State University’s North Willamette Research and Extension Center to experience the future of resilient land stewardship. \nLearn about local work being done at the intersections of land-based food systems and environmental justice\, whole-systems agriculture\, agrivoltaics integration and get an in-person opportunity to check out the new John Deere prototype electric tractor. \nParticipants will better understand how agrivoltaics can be used for reduced utilities costs for producers\, reduce reliance on commercial utilities in emergencies and grid-stressor events\, using solar generation and batteries to power water pumps\, greenhouses\, cold storage and wash-pack stations\, as well as on-farm housing units. \nSponsors: \nAbout SHEBA Farm: SHEBA Farm activates 10 acres of underutilized farmland in the Willamette Valley for beginning and underrepresented farmers\, building core farm infrastructure and deploying a microgrid-supported vertical farm / contained environment agriculture (CEA) as Phase I of a scalable food\, water\, and energy system with a future agrivoltaics pathway for a 20-acre / 5MW project. SHEBA will be a demonstration site for replication throughout the PNW climate ecosystem. \n— \nAbout Oregon State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences: OSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences connects people and the environment\, helping communities and industries thrive by finding real-world solutions that are both economically and ecologically sustainable. SUMMARY:Intro To The Circular Economy & Collaborative Discussion On Waste Solutions in the Park
DESCRIPTION:Part of PNW Climate Week – Have you ever heard of the Circular Economy? It is made up on the foundational principles of creating zero waste. In a world where almost everything is considered tossable this type of mission driven exercise is highly valuable to invoke change. Please join us in fostering community connections through a thought provoking discussion on how to break our societal norms to create zero waste! \nFor this event we will start off with a short segment on what the circular economy is and some foundational principles from there we be working as a collective (or in breakouts if the group is really large) the moderator will be providing scenarios or products from all areas of life that generate waste and we will discuss possible solutions to eliminate waste throughout the pre and post consumer contact. This is meant to be a fun and engaging exercise so please bring your thinking cap! \nThe moderator is hoping to create a Local Chapter for Circular Economists and this event is helping to gage community interest. Even if you cannot attend but are interested in the Local Chapter please reach out to the host directly on LinkedIn! \nThe event will be at a park so if it is raining the event will be canceled. We may also be sitting in the grass potentially so please bring blankets\, camping chairs\, snacks\, water\, hats and whatever else you may need to feel comfortable.
