SUMMARY:Solstice Gathering: Nature Connection and Nourishment for the BIPOC Community
DESCRIPTION:Join Misako from Temenos Rising and Columbia Slough Watershed Council for a free transformative gathering designed specifically as a safe and grounded space for the BIPOC community to slow down\, receive nature’s nourishment and honor our deep connection to the Earth. This is an opportunity to align with the energy of the summer solstice to embrace the peak energy of the Yang fire. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMisako will offer gentle Qigong (“chee gong”)\, nature connection\, and somatic-mindfulness practices that invite a deeper connection with our inner landscapes and with Mother Nature. \n* What is Qigong?\nQigong is an ancient self-healing practice developed thousands of years ago as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Gentle meditative movements\, stretching\, breathwork and visualization exercises regulate the balance of mind-body-spirit to cultivate and maintain health and well-being. \nAbout the facilitator:\nMisako Yamamoto is a Japanese-American free and playful spirit rooted in deep connections to her ancestors and the natural world. With over 20 years as a licensed acupuncturist and Qigong practitioner\, she supports the emotional and spiritual well-being of those she works with. She also serves as a licensed psilocybin facilitator (in Oregon) offering guided legal\, safe\, and supported journeys for individuals and groups. \nNo experience necessary\, just your curiosity and open heart! \n\n\nOffered rain or shine. \n\n\nAccessibility: This event involves walking on gravel or dirt paths with some\nuneven terrain. There will be a porta potty on site. Please contact us with any questions. \n\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\n\nfull water bottle (& snacks if needed) \n\n\nAppropriate clothing to stay warm\, dry\, or cool (hat / sun protection if needed) \n\n\na small backpack or bag to be handsfree \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more info and registration\, visit: https://www.columbiaslough.org/events-list/solstice-gathering-nature-connection-and-nourishment-for-the-bipoc-community

SUMMARY:Feminine Identifying & Non-Binary Sunset Forest Bathing + Yoga
DESCRIPTION:This event is for everyone who identifies as female\, femme\, and/or non-binary! \nJoin Columbia Slough Watershed Council and facilitator Julie Jansen of Earthbody Presence for a unique experience combining forest bathing and yoga!  This event is free and open to those 14 and older. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. \nHow do you want to feel on a Friday night\, with the weekend stretching ahead of you?  On May 22\, join us at the Columbia Children’s Arboretum for yoga and forest bathing at sunset; you’ll leave feeling both calm and rejuvenated.  This offering will help you unwind your mind and body on a beautiful Friday evening in late Spring. \nTo start the experience we’ll move through a gentle\, accessible yoga practice to feel more grounded.  Then we’ll go on a forest bathing walk\, moving intentionally through the natural world. At the end of our experience\, we’ll sip handcrafted tea under the sky at sunset. \nForest bathing\, also called forest therapy\, is inspired by the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku.  It is a guided experience that allows you to connect with nature\, community\, and with yourself.   Your guide will offer a series of mindful invitations to explore the natural environment with care and appreciation.  Each invitation is crafted to connect your senses with the natural world.  This practice helps calm your nervous system\, awaken your senses\, and nourish your whole self. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur guide will be Julie Jansen of Earthbody Presence.  Julie is a certified Forest Therapy Guide with the Association of Nature and Forest therapy and a yoga teacher at PSU.  She will lead our small group as the sun sets and day transitions into night.

SUMMARY:Field Trip: Botany for Birders – Fruit at Columbia Children’s Arboretum
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever struggled to describe which tree a bird is in? Have you ever struggled to identify a tree making it difficult to know how to manage it? Join local arborist\, ecologist and birder Ryan Gilpin for a series of online and field classes designed to help birders more confidently navigate the plant world. Ryan will focus on observing specific characteristics of trees to gather more information. This information can be used to assign a name to a plant\, but the goals of the workshop are more about observing and describing than naming. \nField Trip: Columbia Children’s Arboretum is a park with one of the most diverse tree populations in Portland and a pretty great place to find warblers and many other bird species. If the birds are out and active\, we will bird the park and practice using as specific of language as possible to describe where we are seeing the birds and how they are interacting with the plants around them. If the birds are quiet\, we will scout for fruit (anything that contains an angiosperm seed). But students who attended all 8 sessions should be able to use all of these features together to begin identifying trees more holistically. All trees should have a readily identifiable feature in-mid May\, and hopefully we can practice bringing it all together. We should be able to describe which tree we are seeing a good bird in to our fellow students and identify most trees to be able to learn more about them. \n  \nJoin us for the online portion of this field trip: \n\n\nBotany for Birders: Fruit with Ryan Gilpin\n\nMay 14\, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.\n\n\n\n\nAccessibility\nDistance: approximately 1 mile \nElevation changes: very flat \nTrail: paved in areas\, packed dirt in areas\, bridges\, plan on going off trail to explore plants \nPacing: slow \nSun exposure: mostly shaded \nBathrooms: Portapottys available year-round \nParking: along muddy side of road on NE Meadow Ln \nPublic transit: The 6 Bus has two drops about a mile from the meeting location \nMeeting Location: Meet on the EAST side of park (Google often sends us to west side/NE 6th Dr.)! We will meet near the gate at the end of NE Meadow Lane. \n  \nField Trip Details\n\n\n\nClass: Saturday\, May 17\, 9:00 am – 11:00 am\nClass fee: $45 members / $65 non-member
